Author Rosie Boom: "The Barn Chronicles is a work in progress –
actually we are still living it! It is a series of four books that
tell the story of our family’s move to the country and our attempt
to simplify our lifestyle as we live in a 90-year-old barn in rural
Northland, New Zealand. They relate our dramas and adventures,
mistakes, fun, laughter and tears. The books are written through
the eyes of Milly, who was ten when we moved into the barn. She is
a feisty, plucky girl who loves adventures and animals. She has
gathered an evergrowing menagerie around her – chickens, Indian
Runner ducks, a horse, a house cow … life is never dull with Milly
around! Where Lions Roar at Nightand Where Arrows Fly were
published in 2008 and 2010. Where the Crickets Sing was published
in 2012. The final book of the series, Where the River Rises is due
out in November 2013. I remember the joy of listening to my dad
read to us by tilley light in Papua New Guinea, and how we begged
him each night to keep reading. I’m sure that reading together as a
family is one of the loveliest things we can do together, and so my
heartfelt desire as I write these books is that they will help draw
your family closer as you enjoy them together. I wrote The Barn
Chronicles as a read aloud for families to enjoy together, and many
folk have written back to say that all their children have enjoyed
the books – from little ones right up to Grandpa who lives at home
