Scotty Inman is a fan favorite among Southern Gospel listeners. A founding member of the award winning group Triumphant Quartet, Inman served as baritone vocalist alongside his father Clayton (Lead) and tenor David Sutton and bass singer Eric Bennett for twenty-one years. He departed the group last year to fully commit to a solo ministry. His much anticipated album My God features eleven inspirational and motivating songs. This exciting project showcases Inman’s soulful Christian country stylings that have endeared him to listeners.
This stellar album opens with the mid-tempo tune “Come As You Are.” This encouraging lyric reminds us that no one is too far gone. Jesus extends His Grace to all! Bring Him all your sin and scars. Come as you are! The groovy “Man On The Middle Cross” is a fun, yet powerful track that features Jason Crabb and Charlotte Ritchie as guest vocalists. This song reminds us that Christ is the only way to Heaven. He is our only Hope! “Heaven’s Eyes” is a beautiful ballad that simply says: I want to try to see the world through Heaven’s eyes. We are called to shine His Light in this dark world. Lord, help us be quick to love. “I Know It’s You” is a fun, groovy country style tune that tells of Christ’s many blessings and recognizing His touch on our lives. “Nowhere Town” reminds listeners that while you may feel alone or insignificant, God knows you. He hears your cries! “But For The Grace Of God” reminds us that we don’t stand a chance without Jesus. Without Him, we are just broken pieces. The only good inside my heart is Jesus! The second single from the record is the country style tune “Motel Bible,” which tells the story (from the perspective of a Bible in a motel) of people leaning on God’s word through their struggles. The Isaacs join Scotty on the fast moving bluegrass style “Little White Church House” which is one of my favorites on this project. “Normal” is an incredible song that asks: what happened to normal? How did we fall so far? What happened to common sense, families kneeling to pray, and knowing right from wrong? I don’t think normal is coming back, but Jesus is!! “That’s The Walk” is a tender mid-tempo tune that tells of Scotty’s own faith journey. This incredible album closes with the powerful anthem and title track, “My God.”
FINAL THOUGHTS:
2024 HAS TRULY STARTED OUT STRONG!! THIS IS YET ANOTHER STRONG CONTENDER FOR THE TOP TEN OF THE YEAR LIST! SCOTTY INMAN IS AN INCREDIBLY TALENTED VOCALIST AND SONGWRITER. THIS PROJECT IS DEEPLY ROOTED IN FAITH. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: “MY GOD,” “LITTLE WHITE CHURCH HOUSE,” “NORMAL,” AND “HEAVEN’S EYES.”
